I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust. I hope that you have a fantastic learning experience with your mentor and a wealth of learning opportunities within the wider community team. We are committed to supporting your professional growth and development and your skills development within the clinical environment. My role as Practice Education Facilitator is to support you in your learning journey.

If you have any queries or concerns please feel free to contact me with your comments and questions.

You will receive a workplace induction into your clinical team and orientation to the environment. You should also receive a Student Induction Pack specific to the team to which you are allocated; please contact the clinical team to request this information. Staffordshire University students can access induction packs on the Shropshire Community Health Trust area of Blackboard. Please also see the Staff Induction Handbook which includes some useful information pertinent for all staff, including students. As part of the induction process, all clinical students are required to complete the Information Governance refresher training and a Hand washing assessment found in the Useful Documents sections.

In order to access Trust computers, students will be provided with their own IT log-in. The Informatics form must be returned to IT on completion by a clinical manager.

Clinical teams are now using a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system, RiO. In order to access RiO, you will require a smartcard. The University should have asked you to complete a smartcard application form (see Useful Documents section) prior to the start of your placement. In the event that you have not requested a smartcard, please contact the ESR team as follows: shropcom.esrselfservice@nhs.net or 01743 277606. Once you have received your smartcard, you will be required to complete RiO e-learning which can access via SharePoint. Once you have completed the e-learning, you must pass the ESR assessment: 825 RiO – Assessment; this is accessed by logging into ESR and choosing 825 –learning user and searching for the appropriate course.
